The show will be on exhibit from March 6 until March 29 There will be an opening reception on Friday, March 7th, from 6 PM until 8 PM.
The exhibit features the works of three women whose works are thematically and stylistically related. Rachel Dare, a native resident of the Scranton area and graduate of Marywood, produces three-dimensional works in mixed media, often incorporating wood. Karen Poels, from the Wilkes-Barre area, is a painter who paints both abstract and figurative works, using a mixed media approach, but often incorporates objects which can become a part of the work itself. She is well-known for glazing the paintings, giving the feeling of great depth. She graduated from Kutztown with a degree in fine arts.

When I Float Backwards brings gifts from Mars. They opened up last Sunday for the incomparable Shahzad Ismaily and Ches Smith. Altogether they conquered the Superbowl. Now they’ll be firing their salutes the whole evening, joined again by the genial Joe Michaels. Come and cut loose.

Marc Schimsky at EXPO 27
Juror Marjorie Weinstein of the Whitney Museum of American Art selected eleven winners for the B J Spoke Gallery’s National Juried Competition called EXPO 27. Five of Marc Schimsky’s recent oil paintings (done during the course of this past year) were selected by Weinstein to be included in EXPO 27!
The exhibition will run from March 1st to the 30th, 2008. Opening reception is Saturday, March 8th, 2008, 6 to 9 PM.
Marc Schimsky, artist and retired teacher who splits his time between Commack, NY, and Montrose, PA.,and who is a member of AFA, will have several oil paintings on display at EXPO 27 at the B J Spoke Gallery, 299 Main Street, Huntington, NY, this coming March. Marc’s paintings deal mainly with the fleeting nature of life and the passage of time. He often captures subjects mid-stream in a familiar activity. Marc likes to work with an abundance of vibrant color and he generally keeps the brushwork in his paintings loose and expressive. Borrowing qualities found in photography, Marc frequently blurs parts of his figures and develops a pattern of overlapping shapes to convey a sense of movement and action in his work. This is the focal point of many of his recent paintings.
The Gallery is open Tuesday - Sunday, 11AM to 5PM. Fridays, 11AM to 9PM.
