Local Latino artists to showcase works in King’s Widmann Gallery

Five local Latino artists working in a variety of mediums, including sketches, oil landscape paintings, watercolor and sculptures, will showcase original creative works in the Widmann Gallery at King’s College in an exhibition, titled “Creating an Identity: Latino Artists in NEPA,” from April 21-May 30.

Creative works include sketches by David Castro, a student at Coughlin High School; oil landscape paintings by Henry Rodriguez of Wilkes-Barre; watercolor paintings and charcoal sketches by Rod Gereda of Kingston; and, acrylic paintings by Alina Tellez-Bueno, who is temporarily residing in Scranton. Made of a variety of materials, including cardboard, acrylic paint and fabrics, Hector Tellez of Scranton creates “Catrinas,” which depict four scenes of traditional Mexican festivities, including the “The Day of the Dead.”

Artists will discuss their work during a gallery talk from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 25, in the Widmann Gallery. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours: Mon. through Fri., 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sat. and Sun., as arranged. The Widmann Gallery is located in the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center, between North Franklin and North Main streets.

12th Annual Regional at EMCA

The Endless Mountains Council of the Arts (EMCA) in Tunkhannock has issued a Call For Entries for the 12th Annual Regional Art Exhibit 2008. The exhibit will take place August 1st until September 28th at the The EMCA Center and Wyoming County Courthouse, both in Tunkhannock. The Juror will be Sharon Ball, Executive Director of the Broome County Arts Council in Binghamton and a former cultural journalist in Washington, DC. Deadline for entries is July 11, 12 and 13th. 15th Annual North Branch Arts Fest and Art Trail

The 15th Annual North Branch Arts Fest and Art Trail- Columbus Day weekend-
Oct10,11 &12. Take a ride to the beautiful Susquehanna Valley region of
Northeast PA for a spectacular weekend of art, music, poetry and dance. The
art trail with over 20 galleries extends from Wilkes-Barre to Wyalusing and
nearby towns following US RTE 6. The festival culminates in Wyalusing on
Saturday Oct 11- but events over the entire weekend. Spaces available for

STAR Gallery at Steamtown Mall - Children’s Art Making Corner

STAR Gallery at Steamtown Mall has opened a Children’s Art Making Corner, in the lobby in front of the gallery. Every Saturday 12 to 2pm children in the community are invited to make art with a local artist, for 5$ per child. Dr. Robert Spiegelman at The Wyalusing Community Corp (WCC)

The Wyalusing Community Corp (WCC) is hosting their annual picnic and
meeting on Thursday, May 5 at 5 p.m. The Guest speaker is Dr. Robert
Spiegelman, who is sociologist, multi-media artist, writer and an authority
on the Sullivan/Clinton campaign that traversed through PA and NY State in
the late 17770’s. This lecture will be very stimulating and engaging with
an accompanying power point presentation. The event will be held at the WCC
Building, also the Blue Heron Art Gallery, at 121 Main St in Wyalusing, PA

Brian Keeler - Hrefna Jonsdottir Gallery

The Hrefna Jonsdottir Gallery at 24 Bridge Street, in Lambertville, NJ will
be presenting a one-man-show of the paintings of Brian Keeler during the
month of May. This exhibit will present mostly oils of large, medium and
small scale- many painted on location and other works from the studio. The
show is comprised of landscapes of Pennsylvania, New York State and Italy.
Brian has been represented at this gallery for over 15 years. Please join

‘Fire, Light and Heat ‘

The Exhibit on the theme of Fire, Light and Heat is on schedule for this
summer, with an opening date of Aug 8 at the Blue Heron Gallery in
Wyalusing.
A reminder, however, that the submissions in j-peg or 35mm slide for artists
will be due before June 15. Earlier entry is greatly appreciated as the
accompanying catalog takes time to prepare. Poets may submit your work by
e-mail before that date as well. The entry fees, however will need to be
sent by mail to the gallery. The entry form may be printed and mailed in or
filled out online.
