‘Dreams from Brooklyn’, an exhibit of the works of expressionist painter and poet Nino Infante, opens at the Lizza in Tunkhannock on Sunday, October 5th, with a reception from 2-5 PM.
Brooklyn New York, circa 1940’s, was a special place and time for impressionable Nino Infante growing up. It was this breeding ground of textured memrories that would one day be the catalyst for Nino’s dark, dreamlike paintings. Infante’s abstract/surrealistic style can be viewed as childlike and raw but on a parallel level, sophisticated yet pure. Nino offers you a voyeuristic peek into his complex psyche dotted with colorful Coney Island characters, shadowy figures and mysterious women in white. Coming from an inviolably private place, the spectrum of Infante’s images weave stories of a nostalgic and simpler time.
The show continues until December 27.

This Italian Trip (June 7, 2009 - June 19, 2009)is a 10-day art workshop with Brian Keeler in beautiful Umbria in Central Italy. This will mark the 4th time Brian has conducted a class in Italy for artists and the second time in Umbria.
The focus will be primarily on plien-aire (one-sitting) paintings out-of-doors. We will also work directly from the live model on three mornings to acquaint students with the direct approach to composing and painting the nude figure. This figure painting instruction is best suited for those working in oil, however this part and the entire course will be great for those working in pastel and acrylic.
We will take some trips to nearby vistas to paint and one trip to Florence to visit the museums. The setting is ideal at the Agritourismo run by the Gioffre Family near the medieval town of Todi.
The fee for the entire workshop including all ground transportation, scrumptious meals and wine, comfortable accommodations, optional dance and cooking classes and lectures is $2,950. A deposit of $950 is due by February 15 to reserve a spot. The second payment of $950 is due 90 days before departure and the final payment of $1050 is due 60 days before departure. The air flight is not included. The stay here in Umbria is also open to non-artists, spouses, friends or lovers of Italy who may wish to enjoy the excursion without taking the painting class. A price reduction is offered to non-artists. Make your reservation today as space is limited.
A complete supply list, course description, and guidelines for participants will be sent upon receiving a deposit. Call Brian Keeler at 570-746-1187 for further information. To view the site his web site visit www.briankeeler.com or the site of the workshop, visit www.agriviva.com.
