Welcome to the Thirteenth Annual Artists’ Open House Weekend: A unique event that has become an art-lover’s tradition on Columbus Day Weekend - October 10, 11 & 12, 2009. All studios are open daily 10am-6pm. This self-guided tour to 24 artists at 19 locations features the abundant beauty of Susquehanna County: wood-carving; unique wood-, gas-, & electric-fired ceramics; paintings in many media and styles; photography; sculpture; field stone walls; porcelain painting; contemporary wood furniture; prints and many other artistic expressions. On Monday, many artists demonstrate an aspect of their craft. This is an opportunity to see how it is done and you can enjoy some at-length conversation in relaxed surroundings.
Have fun…follow the hot pink ART arrows…if weather permits, bring a picnic or buy one from our ‘friends’. We welcome you to our thriving art community in this picturesque corner of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

“Responding in Clay: Italian Sabbatical 2009”, an exhibit by Frank Goryl from November 20 to December 13 at Paper Kite Gallery, 443 Main St. Kingston, PA. Opening reception: Friday, November 20th, 6 – 8pm.
The exhibit will feature recent clayworks as a response to Frank’s family January to June travels in Europe and two month long residency projects conducted at the Scuola d’Arts Ceramica “Romano Ranieri” in Deruta, Umbria and at La Meridiana in Certaldo, Tuscany.
NEXUS seeks experimental artists in ALL disciplines including but not limited to painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, performance, electronics, digital media, audio, dance or curatorial practices. NEXUS values artist members who are dynamic, willing to take risks, dedicated to their work and enjoy being part of a community of artists. NEXUS members are given the opportunity to exhibit their work once every two years in solo exhibitions, participate in group exhibitions and curate large scale exhibitions. The Antreasian Gallery in Baltimore, Maryland, is seeking all ‘Art of the Nude Human Figure’ - whether realistic, abstract, visionary, or fantasy, etc. - in all media from painting to drawing to sculpture to multi-media. All artists are invited to submit as many digital images of art as desired.
The accepted work will be shown in a large group show, called “Nudes 2010″ in the tradition of the Antreasian Gallery’s previous Summer Nudes shows and will have an opening reception for all artists and visitors to attend. The show will run for the month of February, 2010, with an Opening Reception on February 5, Friday Night.
The deadline for submissions is open thru January 15th, however everyone is encouraged to submit works early and often. Size requirements: Works should not exceed 30″ by 40″, however exceptions may be made. There will be a $15 participation fee, due open acceptance.

Beginning September 25, 2009, and complementing the Everhart Museum’s Fall exhibit, Day of the Dead: Art & Culture in the Americas, area students were invited to create artworks inspired by important people in their lives who have passed away, such as a parent, grandparent, friend or relative; several students also decided to focus on famous and notable public figures. The Day of the Dead is a holiday of remembrance in Latin America, and families all over Central and South America celebrate their ancestors with special displays in the home and at the public cemeteries. Through collaborations such as Celebrating Ancestors: Student Art at the Everhart, the Everhart Museum nurtures creativity and showcases artistic excellence in the community. Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos) opens Sep 15, and has its roots in ancient indigenous cultures of Central and South America, and today is celebrated throughout the America’s during the Roman Catholic holidays of All Saints’ and All Soul’s Days (November 1 & 2). Created by the Everhart Museum with funding assistance from the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, this exclusive exhibit illustrates Day of the Dead as a celebration and remembrance of beloved people in the family and community. Day of the Dead: Art & Culture in the Americas features contemporary art from nationally and internationally recognized artists, traditional folk art, and the Everhart Museum’s Pre-Columbian collection. “The Photography Of Mike Coviello….A Retrospective”

Mike Coviello was a long time member of the Northeast Photography Club who passed away in June, 2009. This retrospective exhibition of his work was curated by Mike’s three close friends: Carl Backlund, Bernie Andreoli and Rolfe Ross.
Together, the self-described “gang of four” formed the Northeast Photo Collective and shared many great times and photo adventures in places like New York City, Coney Island and Cuba. They met several times a year for a home cooked dinner and an evening of drinking wine, swapping stories, and talking about photographs and photography.
Mike’s friends and fellow photographers will not forget him or his wonderful photographs.
The Jewish Federation of NEPA will preesnt the N. E. Pennsylvania Jewish Film Festival on Oct 24 & 25th, 2009. It will take place the the Albright Memorial Library, Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple and the Mellow Theater of Lackawanna College. The Festival will include films, food and fun, with celebrities and thoughtful discussions.
Members Show at EMCA
Endless Mountains Council of the Arts (EMCA) will present an exhibit of the works of members from October 4 - 14th. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, October 4, from 2 -5 PM at the Gallery.
Members may each submit one work for the exhibit. Works will be accepted at EMCA on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept 24, 25 & 26 from 1-5 PM.
Jime Grabowski will be exhibiting her Prettylines work at the JungleScience Gallery and Art Laboratories in Binghamton, NY. on Sept. 4th
The Prettylines collection was recently on display at the Silpe Gallery at the University of Hartford in thesis conclusion to her MFA Illustration studies. The works are targeted towards a young female audience and will be instrumental towards the licensing of marketable products.
Music will be orchestrated by the awesome thereminist, Jason Smeltzer.

· Display 3 pieces of an artist’s work.
· Charge ZERO commission.
· Feature a different artist every month for Third Friday.
Artist will:
· Pay $20.00 per month to have up to 3 pieces displayed.
· Volunteer for one “shift” of 5 hours per month.
· Keep 100% of sales of their work.

‘Day to Day’, an exhibit of photographs by Ivana Pavelka will take place at the
Suraci Gallery, Marywood University. There will be a gallery talk on September 23rd at 2 PM. There will be a reception on October 11th, 3-5 PM.
Ivana’s exhibits photographs of variations of fragments of everyday life which utilize a variety of photographic processes including Polaroid, gelatin silver, and ink jet.
Jordan Taylor is having an exhibit entitled ‘clay and light’ from September 10 to October 18 at the Mahady Gallery at Marywood University in Scranton. There is an opening reception on October 11th, 3-5 PM. There is also a gallery talk on October 11th at 5:30 PM.
Using raw clays and firing with wood, Taylor’s sculpture and jar forms are a participatory study in geologic transformation, as are his site-relational installations, which also explore light and space.

Pages & Places will host 30 nationally recognized writers, scholars, and editors. Some have won MacArthur “Genius” Fellowships, NEA and Guggenheim Fellowships, and major literary awards. On Saturday, October 3rd, they will convene nine panels and workshops on subjects ranging from green living to the state of our national poetry to the current renaissance in independent publishing to book-making as art.
